How difficult is the hike?
This walk is easy to moderate and beginner-friendly. We’ll be taking things at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops for chats, photos, and the sunset.
The route is around 5–6 miles and should take about 2.5–3 hours in total. There are a few uphill sections around Winnats Pass and Lose Hill, but nothing too crazy. If you’re comfortable walking for a few hours outdoors, you’ll most likely be fine.
This is a social sunset walk, not a fast-paced hike.
What is the elevation?
There are a couple of steady climbs during the walk, especially heading up towards Lose Hill, but we’ll take our time with it.
The views are 100% worth it, especially around sunset.
What should I wear?
Clothes
Layers are best for this one since it’ll get cooler later in the evening.
We’d recommend:
- Comfortable walking clothes
- Waterproof jacket
- Extra warm layer for after sunset
Try to avoid jeans if possible, especially if the ground is wet.
Shoes
Please wear trainers or walking shoes with decent grip. Some parts of the trail can be muddy, rocky, or slippery depending on the weather.

- Phone torch or small torch for the walk back

By joining the walk, you’re responsible for your own health and safety during the event.
Please make sure you come prepared with suitable shoes, clothing, water, and anything else you personally need for a few hours outdoors.
The route may change slightly depending on weather or the group on the day.
Where is the meeting point?
We’ll meet at the main pay & display car park in Castleton near the visitor centre and public toilets.
Please arrive between 5–6pm since Sundays can get pretty busy in Castleton.
What if I need to cancel?
If you can’t make it anymore, just let us know at least 24 hours so we can offer your spot to someone else.
