Overview
We’re heading to Carding Mill Valley with our host, Laura Print, for a relaxed all-women group hike in Carding Mill Valley, one of the most beautiful walking spots in the Shropshire Hills. This guided group walk takes you through rolling hills, open moorland, and scenic countryside trails around the Long Mynd, with chances to spot the area’s famous wild horses along the way. This is the perfect beginner-friendly hike if you’re looking for a social walking group in Shropshire, a weekend outdoor activity, or a scenic countryside walk near Church Stretton. We’ll keep a steady, relaxed pace with plenty of time for chats, photos, and enjoying the views. Whether you come on your own or with friends, this Shropshire hiking group is all about fresh air, movement, and meeting like-minded women outdoors. Spaces are limited.

FAQs
How difficult is the hike?
This hike is easy to moderate and we’ll be keeping things relaxed the whole way. The route is around 3.6 miles and should take about 2–3 hours with stops along the way.
There are a few hills and uneven paths, but nothing too intense. If you’re comfortable walking for a couple of hours outdoors, you’ll most likely be fine.
This is more of a social countryside walk than a hardcore hike, so there’s no pressure to rush or keep a fast pace.
What is the elevation?
There are some uphill sections around Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, but nothing extreme. Most of the route is steady and manageable, with lots of open views and rolling hills rather than steep climbs the whole time.
What should I wear?
Clothes
Layers are your best friend. The weather in the Shropshire Hills can change pretty quickly, so bring something light and comfortable that you can easily add or take off.
A waterproof jacket is always a good idea too, just in case.
Shoes
Please wear trainers or walking boots with decent grip. Some parts of the trail can get muddy or slippery depending on the weather.
Bring along
- Small backpack
- Sunglasses or sunscreen if it’s sunny
- An extra layer just in case it gets chilly
Do I need to bring anything else?
Just bring the basics so you’re comfortable for a few hours outdoors.
We’d recommend:
- Water
- Snacks
- Fully charged phone
- Waterproof layer
- Any medication you might need
Optional extras:
- Camera
- Portable charger
- Walking poles if you like using them
Can I come if I’m a beginner?
Yes, definitely. This walk is beginner-friendly and we’ll be going at a steady pace.
You don’t need loads of hiking experience, but you should feel comfortable walking for a couple of hours on countryside trails and hills.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome, but they’ll need to stay on a lead at all times.
There may be livestock and wild horses around, so it’s really important they stay under control during the walk.
What about health and safety?
By joining the hike, you’re responsible for your own health and safety during the event.
Please make sure you come prepared with suitable shoes, clothing, water, and anything else you personally need for a few hours outdoors.
What if I need to cancel?
If you can’t make it anymore, just let us know at least 24 hours in advance, so your spot can be offered to someone else. Since spaces are limited, we’d really appreciate the notice.
